The tenth song was called “You Will Always Be My Son” which was primarily sung by Caleb Grimm who recently had a baby. We don’t have to fight and be right all the time because the world is filled with unresolved, gray areas. The next two songs, “Says Who” and “Nobody’s right”, resonated with me because their empowering messages encouraged me to want to break away from conformity and from what people tell me to be. The next four songs, upbeat “Better Together”, slow “Automatic Love”, acoustic-filled “Working On It” and romantic “Keep You Close”, focused on falling in love and working on loving your partner, which reflected the different stages of a romantic relationship. This theme of juggling our differences followed in the next song called “Good Fight”. It started slowly and gradually elevated into a powerful and upbeat song that really encouraged people to be proud of their uniqueness. The song that came after this was one, “Who I’m Meant to Be,” was one of my personal favorites. By placing this small introduction, I felt like I was able to connect with the artists more and understand how important these songs were to them. In the background, the humming of their voices combined into a beautiful harmony. It showed how every experience was a brush stroke that filled up this canvas called life.
Each member of the band talked about how their experiences as a father, married man and confused walker of life shaped the songs in this album. The first song in the album was called “Painted Skies”, but rather than a song, it was more of a one-minute introduction to what the album was about.
Each song had a message that, although different, tied perfectly to the rest of the songs in the album. Overall, this album embodied a theme of positivity, hope and uniqueness. Although I am not very religious, I felt like this album was extremely relatable to people of all faiths who are struggling with difference and intolerance.
